The past two weeks have brought an incredible increase in the number of speckled seatrout that we are catching around Sanibel. I’ve had days where almost every cast is immediately hit by a hungry fish. Fish of all sizes have been reeled in boatside with trout in the 2-3 lb. range reasonably common and the occasional “gator” being hooked. Large ladyfish, jack crevalles, and Spanish mackerel have also been joining the party. When I’m fishing for trout, I like to target grass flats between 3 and 5 feet deep. Popping corks with around 18 inches of leader underneath and a large live shrimp or whitebait will attract bites. Happy fishing!
